This is where we will be posting our weekly reflections of the Quran.
Here is how it works...
Every week one student will post a link to a youtube video by Br. Nouman Ali Khan from:

http://www.youtube.com/user/quranweekly

I will notify you on who the student responsible for that weekly posting will be.  Every Tuesday I will announce a new student to put up a new youtube link for us to listen to.

Every student in the class will then listen to the short lecture posted by their classmate and write a reflection to that video.  Meaning that every week I should have 14 reflections posted on this blog.  And yes, you will be graded on this!! :-)

I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts, and I also can't wait to post up mine :-)

  1. Well my reflection for this topic is that " whatever torture or punishment you get for not believing in something that isn't true, such as believing that some man is your god and not Allah doesn't mean that you just give up because of how harsh the punishment is you have to remember that as long as your Iman is strong and you know that your true lord is Allah you know that Allah will always protect you no matter what happens."
Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

Also another point is that just by looking at how bad a person is doesn't mean his/her whole character is bad. Yes they do bad things but they never forget to do one good thing which is obey Allah, like for example how they say that " don't judge a book by its cover" the same thing the books cover may be bad but in the inside of it is all good. Thank you!!! I like turtles by the way!!:)

  2. salaam,my reflection for this topic is that you should never give up your religion under any circumstances even if you get humiliated or tortured and do it for the sack of your deen. that you should never underestimate yourself or others because you have no idea what they are capable of doing.
Another point is that even if you are a person who commits major or minor sins, you can be forgiven if you ask Allah for repentance and comes back on to the right path and does good deeds and applies it to their daily lives. And not only will Allah forgive them but will turn all of their sins to good deeds. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELVES OR OTHERS BECAUSE EVERYONE CAN CHANGE FROM THE MERCY OF ALLAH.

  4. assalam alaikum, my reflection for this topic is that never to give up your religion for anything no matter what it is. Allah is our protector and Allah is always by our side. Even if u commit minor or major sins Allah says in the Quran

Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

so even if u do minor or major sins, if u ask for forgiveness not only will Allah forgive u. Allah will replace your evil deeds into good deeds. Another thing is that u should never underestimate yourself or others, because you have no idea what they are capable of doing or what they have already did(as i good deeds) . Also Allah has given us all unique qualities..... we should all value each other rather than underestimate each other....

  5. My reflection for this video is that you should not be ashamed of being Muslim and to be ashamed of being whipped in front of any one. you should be proud of that because you are standing up in what you believe in. if you ever commit a sin you should know if you make duua and Allah will forgive you ISA.

  6. No matter the punishments or torture you are going through (emotionally and physically), never underestimate how strong you truly are, or the potential you have in you. You should also never depreciate the person sitting next to you because the impact that person has on the world is unknown to you. That person could have sacrificed so much for the sake of Allah (swt) and you wouldn’t even know. Also, if you stray off the right path, redeem yourself. Don’t resign yourself to permanent sin. Allah (swt) says in Surat Al-Furqan ayah #70 “

Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

If you commit sin, big or small, and guide yourself back to the right path, Allah (swt) will not only forgive your sins, he will convert them into good deeds (hasanaat). Obey Allah and watch your actions for the sake of your deen and your life in the here-after and inshAllah we will all be rewarded in the afterlife.

  7. Zubair Ibn Awwam was a very special person. He had Bravery which not many people have. When he was just a boy he heard that the Rasool was being attacked. He took his sword and ran to the Prophet. The Prophet asked Zubair what he was doing with that sword. He said that he was going to kill whoever was attacking the Prophet. How many of us have that courage at such a young age to go kill somebody because he is hurting your loved one.
Another time in the Battle of Badr Zubair was fighting really well while wearing a yellow turban. Allah had given him an opportunity no one else had ever been offered. Allah sent down an army of angels all wearing yellow turbans to honor him. This is bravery from true love of Allah and His Prophet. he was willing to give up anything for his religion. The best we can do is try to do the same in any situation whether it is in school or in a masjid. Hold on to your faith no matter what because that is all we have. When we die we will wont take any of the money with us. When we die we wont take any of our family of friends. We will only take our deeds and we should hope to god that we will go to Jannah. We should all reflect on this video and use it to better ourselves.

  8. Az-Zubair Ibn Awwam, the first cousin of the prophet (saw) accepted Islam at the age of 12. Zubair was tortured by Naufal so severely that every night the people of Makah could hear the screams of Zubair, who was being tortured for the sack of believing Allah. Zubair was well known for his bravery. One time Zubair heard the Prophet (saw) being attacked so he took his sword and ran to the Prophet and the Prophet (saw) asked what are you doing and he said that I heard you were being attacked so the Prophet (saw) said what were you going to do then? He said I was going to strike the one who was attacking you. In the Battle of Badr, Zubair had the skill to fight with two swords while controlling the horse with his legs. He fought so bravery that Allah (swt) honored him with sending him angels to fight along the side with the Muslims. In the battle of Uhad, Zubair was known as being the furious, courageous and brave warrior. He always served the Prophet (saw). Whenever Zubair started his prayer Ammar Ibn Amuse would attack him, thinking that he would be rewarded or pleased by Ali. This all basically tells us that Zubair’s courage was not for pride or arrogance but his courage was for Allah and only Allah. The lesson for us to learn is to ask ourselves if we have the love for Allah (swt), do we feel proud to be a Muslim and do we only fear Allah (swt)

  10. Bismallah waslawat atyabat alsalamualkium I would like to start by introducing the guest speaker Omar Suleiman he is a wonderful speaker mashallah he has beautiful lectures may, Allah reward him. Az-Zubair Ibn Awwam was the first cousin of the prophet (PBH) he accepted islam at a young age 12 years old, because of accepting islam Nawfal tortured him every night he would wrap him in a mat and make him suffocate using smoke, he will get torched for the sake of allah, from all that beating everyone in makkah can hear him screaming. Zubair had courage and bravery, example of his bravery one time he heard that the prophet was getting attacked so he took his sword and ran to the prophet, so then the prophet (PBH) told Zubair what are you doing and he told the prophet that he heard someone was attacking the prophet then the prophet (SAW) told Zubair what were you going to do and he said I was going to strike the person with my sword. In the battle of Badr Zubair was one of the two people to have horses, also he had a special talent he learned to fight with two sword in his hand and control his horse with his legs. And on the day of the battle he wore a yellow turban he fought so bravely that Allah honored him with something that no one had given before Allah sent Three thousand angels to imitate and following and they were all wearing yellow turban and following Zubair in the battle of badr. Subahnallah, in the battle of Uhad he was known a fierce warrior, he gets angry like a tiger and attacks just like it and that’s how he got is name, he also will do anything for his religion and for the prophet (PBH). Zubair had something special to him when the Muslims first moved to Medina some of the people said that the Muslims would not be able to have children, so Zubair was married to Assma Bint Abu Baker she was the first women to give birth three months after Hijrah when the Muslims thought that they were cursed. Zubair had his first child Abdullah Ibn Zubair. Zubair went to make wudu while he was making wudu Ammar Ibn Gamuse made Ikama, whenever Zubair started his salah Ammar Ibn Gamuse attacked him and emulated him and Ammar Ibn Gamuse thought that he was pleasing Zubair so he took the limbs and the swords of Az-Zubair and he took them to the tent of Ali and when he wanted to go into his tent the guards will tell him not to so he gave them the sword of Az- Zubair and the guards give them to ali and he started crying and he said that he heard the prophet (SAW) say if u se the murder of Az-Zubair give him the news that he is a person of hell fire, and when Ali came outside of his tent and Ammar Ibn Gamuse had run away and made suicide. This is a lesson that we should all learn about bravery and courage Zubair was tortured when he was 12 we cry because we got hit with a shoe he suffered more than what we suffer, another thing we should always love the prophet and always follow what he did and insllah this helps us in our everyday lives

  11. Asalamuaikum my response to this video Is that zubair IBM Awwan was a very brave man and he would do anything except forget his religion. When zubair RA was small at the age of 12 he was tortured a lot by noufal everyday and many people in Mekkah would hear his screams. Zubair ibn Awwan accepted Islam at a young age which was 12 and he loved prophet Muhammad SAW very much. Once he had heard that prophet Muhammad was being attacked and he grabbed his sword and went to the prophet; the prophet asked what are you doing here he replied I'm here to strike the one who is attacking you! At a very young Zubair did that just for Prophet Muhammad because he loved him very much and he was brave. Also in the battle of badr prophet Muhammad only had two horsemen and he was one of them zubair fought very bravely and because of that Allah SWT honored Zubair by sending down three thousand angels to help the Muslims and they imitated zubair and how he was dressed because he was very brave and strong and at the same time he had faith in Allah. Allah loved Zubairs attributes and because he was a very Islamic man Allah had him killed in his salah just like that Zubairs kids were also killed in salah, thank you and I like turtles!!!!:)

  12. Assalam alaikum,
Az-Zubair ibn awwam was a very brave person. Zubair had accepted islam when he was only about 12 years old. Zubair would get tortured alot by noufal. noufal would wrap Zubair in a mat and make him suffocate by using smoke. Alot of people in makkah could hear him scream. Zubair also loved prophet muhammed. for an example zubair heard that prophet muhammed was being attacked so zubair quickly got a sword and ran to prophet muhammed. So when zubair got there prophet muhammed asked him what he was doing, zubair said that he heard someone was attacking you(prophet muhammed). After that prophet muhammed said that if he was really being attacked what would zubair do. Zubair said that he would have stabed/ killed the person that was attacking prophet muhammed. By hearing this story you could see how much love Zubair had for prophet muhammed and also how brave he was. Zubair was so brave that he actually fought in the battle of badr. Zubair was wearing yellow clothing and was a horsemen. Zubair had alot of skills he fought very well, and so Allah honored him. Allah (S.W.T) honored Zubair by sending down an army of angels wearing yellow clothes. subhanallah. All I can see is Allah (S.W.T) was very pleased by Zubair. Zubair was very Brave, he never gave up his religion. Zubair was proud to be a muslim, and we all should too. Zubair and his kids past away while they were in salah. we should all think about how brave we are and what we would do for our religion.....

  13. AsalaamuAlaykum, this week Omar Suleiman introduced us to a very inspiring topic about bravery.
Al Zubair Ibn Awaam is one of the 10 companions promised paradise by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Al Zubair accepted Islam at a very young age (12 years old) and was brutuly tortured by his father, Nawfal. Nawfal used to wrap him up in a heavy mat and suffocate him with smoke. This punishment was so severe, the people of makkah heard Al Zubair’s screams, and yet he never turned his back on islam. Al Zubair had an unconditional love for Prophet Muhammad. One day he heard the prophet was being attacked, and drew his sword vowing to kill anyone who would harm the prophet. This was known as “The first drawn sword”. Al Zubair was known as a special warrior for his unique skill in fighting with two swords while controlling his horse with his feet. Allah (swt) was so pleased with his bravery, he sent down 3,000 angels imitating Al Zubair during war. There is also a story about Uthman’s murder. Al Zubair was so outraged, he vowed to avenge uthman and kill his murderer which was Ali. However, the prophet warned Al Zubair and because of the infinite love he had for the prophet, he obeyed, giving his allegiance to Ali. When Al Zubair went to pray, Imam Amr Ibn Jamous striked at him during Salah, killing him and returning his limbs and sword to Ali thinking he would be pleased. Ali was so upset, he cried when the prophet said “If you see the murderer of Al Zubair, give him the news that he is a person of hellfire”. Hearing this, Ali was so ashamed and fearful, he tragically ended his own life. Al Zubair was remembered as a person of absolute courage and bravery. His courage wasn’t established from arrogance or pride, but for his unconditional belief and love for Allah (swt) and Islam. The message these stories are trying to convey is, we should only have the fear of Allah (swt) and be brave for the sake of Allah and Allah only. We should have the courage to sacrifice anything and everything for the sake of Allah, just like Zubair Ibm Awaam.
